Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be met by an Off Season Adventures team member and transferred to Kibo Palace for accommodations. Take some time to relax before heading to a school for disabled students in the afternoon. Depending on your flight arrival you may have time to visit Mulala. Enjoy dinner at your hotel and ponder the amazing journey ahead!

Sunday March 15, 2020

After breakfast, we will depart on a full day of game drives within Tarangire National Park. The park gets its name from the Tarangire River that runs through it and provides a water source for the abundance of wildlife that resides here. Keep your eyes peeled for zebra, giraffes, elephants, and over 500 species of birds. We will enjoy a picnic lunch before heading to the Off Season Adventures’ Kakoi Water Project. The initiative has developed a year-round water source for the 15,500 residents that live near the borders of the park.

Monday March 16, 2020

Today’s journey will take us to the spectacular Lake Manyara National Park. The park is comprised of 11 types of diverse ecosystems ranging from savannah to evergreen forests. This variety provides habitat for several species of large mammals. There will be chances to view flamingos, giraffes, elephants, hippos, and the famous tree-climbing lions. This afternoon we will visit the nomadic Datoga tribe. You will be introduced to a family and learn more about their daily lives and the handicrafts they make. Enjoy dinner at Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge.

Tuesday March 17. 2020

Early this morning we will join the Hadzabe tribe for a hunt. The Hadzabe have been hunter-gatherers for generations and they still rely on traditional techniques when hunting. We will have the opportunity to observe this practice and learn more about their culture. After breakfast, we will make our way to Serengeti National Park enjoying scenic game drives on the way.

Wednesday March 18 & Thursday March 19, 2020

The next two days will be spent in the massive Serengeti National Park. Known for its stunning natural beauty, the park has the highest concentration of plains game in Africa. Among this abundance of wildlife, you will find zebra, lion, elephant, cheetah, hyena, buffalo, and more than 500 species of birds. Your days are guaranteed to be full of life-changing wildlife viewing.

Friday March 20, 2020

This morning we will journey to the stunning Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s natural wonders. It has a consistent water source which creates some of the most lush lands in Africa and makes for some excellent wildlife viewing. On our scenic drive we may see zebra, lions, hippos, African leopard, cape buffalo, and giraffe. We will also have the opportunity to visit the semi-nomadic Maasai tribe. They reside within the Ngorongoro Conservation area and have mostly preserved their traditional culture and way of life. During your time learn more about their daily activities, participate in a tribal dance, and browse unique local gifts.

Saturday March 21, 2020

Today marks the end of your Tanzanian journey! After breakfast and saying goodbye to the rest of your group you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.

If you have chosen the extension today you will head to the beautiful island of Zanzibar. Located just off the coast of Tanzania in the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean, this small island is full of diverse cultures, palm-lined beaches, and aromatic spices. Upon arrival head out on a tour of Stone Town and learn more about what makes this island so unique. In the afternoon, participate in a spice plantation tour. Learn more about the spices located here and also their use and health benefits. Don’t be surprised if your guide asks you to smell and taste several bushes and twigs to get you to guess what they are! Enjoy dinner on the town.

After breakfast continue your Zanzibar sightseeing with a tour of Prison Island. Learn about the history of this island with the slave trade and government medical quarantines that took place there. Enjoy the scenery on the island as it is very beautiful and known for its giant sea tortoises. In the evening enjoy a peaceful sunset cruise before enjoying dinner on the town.

If you have chosen the extension today you will depart on a short flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival you will be met by your driver and guide. You will enjoy lunch in the city before heading out on a guided exploration of Nairobi and will visit the local markets and artisans. Enjoy dinner a unique dinner at Carnivore where you can try local delicacies and exotic meats prepared in traditional way.

After breakfast, take a guided tour of the Karen Blixen Museum, the author of “Out of Africa”. The museum is the farmhouse where she lived from 1914 to 1931 and is completely preserved in its original state. It gives you a glimpse into the past and what Nairobi was like at that time. Have lunch in the city before heading to the National Museum of Kenya. The museum houses many cultural and historic artifacts of this country as well as information about the local wildlife and diverse landscapes. This evening enjoy dinner in town or at your hotel.

Monday March 23, 2020

Begin your day with a trip to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. This organization works on many projects throughout Kenya including stopping poaching, safeguarding the natural environment, and providing veterinary assistance to animals in need. One of their most well known projects is rescuing orphan elephants and rhinos. You’ll have the opportunity to spend some time with these animals and witness the good work the trust is doing. Enjoy lunch in the city before heading to the Giraffe Centre. This was created by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife to educate people on the environment and wildlife and give them the opportunity to see giraffe up close. Proceeds from the center go to protect the Rothschild Giraffe, a subspecies only found in East Africa. Enjoy your last dinner on the town or at your hotel.
