Join us on the Tanzania Culinary Tour!

This culinary journey through Tanzania combines tasty food with immersive cultural experiences. You’ll visit traditional markets, participate in a cooking class, learn about coffee production, and visit local tribes and people. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Kakoi Water Project and the Mulala and Agape Women’s Cooperative, which are initiatives that help empower local communities.

Tanzania has some of the most incredible wildlife in the world. A trip here would not be complete without viewing some of these animals. This excursion will also take you to Tarangire, Lake Manyara National Parks, and the Ngorongoro Crater for game drives.

Day 1

Welcome to Tanzania! Once you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll meet a representative and head to your hotel. The afternoon will be at your leisure to relax, explore Arusha, and contemplate the Tanzanian journey ahead!

Day 2

After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll head to a local market where you can wander around the stalls and interact with local people. You will also pick up the food needed for your cooking class. For lunch, you’ll make your meal the Tanzanian way and indulge in your efforts. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the Tanzania Breweries Ltd. Here you can sample some local beers and communicate with other patrons. Tonight you’ll have dinner in Arusha before heading back to your hotel.

Day 3

Today you’ll experience some of the impressive wildlife found in Tanzania. First, you’ll drive to the Kakoi Water Project located on the perimeter of Tarangire National Park. This project partially funded by your tour is setting up a year-round water source for the 15,000 people who live in this area. After lunch, you’ll head into the park for game drives. Keep a lookout for lions, elephants, zebras, and many different types of birds. This evening you’ll spend the night at Burunge Tented Lodge near the park.

Day 4

On this day, you’ll embark on another full day of game drives. First, you’ll make your way to Lake Manyara National Park. It is one of the smaller parks in the country but has many diverse ecosystems perfect for wildlife. You’ll have the chance to see pink flamingos, hippos, giraffes, and so much more. This evening you’ll head to Karatu.

Day 5

This morning you’ll enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading out for the day. First, you’ll visit a Maasai village to learn more about their way of life. You’ll see where they live, be able to participate in daily tasks, dance with them, and purchase unique souvenirs that they make. Next, you’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for lunch and a game drive. This natural wonder has a year-round water source that creates incredibly fertile lands and the perfect habitat for wildlife. Here you’ll find lions, elephants, water buffalo, and even black rhinos. After your busy day, you’ll drive back to your hotel for dinner and to relax.

Day 6

Today you’ll have the opportunity to meet with the Iraqw tribe. This group resides in the Arusha and Manyara regions of Tanzania. Their origins and history are unknown, but they have called this area home since the 1800s. You’ll have lunch back at the lodge before heading out on a coffee plantation tour. Karatu has very fertile land that is perfect for growing coffee beans. You’ll see what the production process is like, get to taste some of the goods and purchase some delicious coffee to take home.

Day 7

After breakfast, you’ll drive the town of Mto wa Mbu for an immersive cultural experience. This village is said to have representatives of all of Tanzania’s 120 tribes. Here you’ll wander through the market, learn about banana harvesting, and have the chance to sample some banana beer. After lunch, you’ll drive back to Arusha, and the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 8

After breakfast, you’ll head out on an immersive cultural experience at the Mulala and Agape Women Cooperative. Run by the Meru Tribe, this organization’s goal is to provide economic development opportunities for women in the area. Women in the program have modernized traditional processes to make them more efficient. While here, you will watch these processes, learn to make coffee directly from the beans, and observe cheese and honey production. For lunch, you’ll be treated to a local meal made from produce grown on-site. In the afternoon, you can take a nature walk around the co-op to observe the beautiful surroundings.

Day 9

Today brings your Tanzanian Culinary journey to an end. After breakfast, your guide will take you to the airport for your journey home. If you don’t feel you’ve experienced enough of this wonderful country, ask how to extend your trip!
